CE Webinar: Attachment Trauma and Sex Addiction with Matt Wenger

Attachment Trauma and Sex Addiction

with Matt Wenger, LPC

Friday, June 4 | 11am-1pm Central
– *This event has passed

The therapeutic community is growing to understand how trauma can lead to sex addiction. But does the type of trauma change the nature of the addiction or the treatment? By focusing in on Attachment Trauma and simplifying complex narratives we can bring insight to clients around how their addiction formed, how it is specifically damaging their relationships and what successful interventions might be. These insights and interventions are not immediately obvious and can bring deep healing.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After this program participants will be able to:

  1. Identify two ways to simplify complex narratives for their wounded clients.
  2. Describe how Attachment Wounds have contributed to or led to addictive behaviors in clients with trauma and addiction.
  3. Describe three ways to apply self-parenting as a framework and intervention for pursuing healing with clients.

Matt Wenger, LPC

Matt Wenger holds a master’s degree in Couples and Family Counseling from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He began his clinical work with traumatized children and young people and learned how complex issues can lead to mental distress and dysfunction in homes. He connected with the TINSA® treatment model (trauma induced sexual addiction) regarding the overlap between childhood trauma and addiction and started working with those who identified as sex addicts at Begin Again Institute. As a counselor, Matt is energized by helping clients find words to express their emotions around their traumas and feel those emotions rather than avoid them. An agent of change, he feels most like himself when he is privileged to see growth and the end of destructive cycles in his clients. Matt has many years of experience and training working with victims of trauma. He has been described by his clients as a therapist who can cut to the core of an issue, in ways that are both challenging and compassionate. He utilizes Emotion Focused Therapy, Attachment Theory, Motivational Interviewing, Guided Meditation and is trained in Brain Spotting. Matt sees all people as deserving of living a full, healthy life and works hard to help his clients move towards that end.
