CE Webinar: Sexual Betrayal as Trauma

Sexual Betrayal as Trauma

With Laurie Hall, RScP, CPC-S, PSAP

Friday, Nov 20th | 11:00am – 1:00pm CT and
Friday, Dec 4th | 11:00am – 1:00pm

In this didactic and interactive session, we will look at why sexual betrayal is so traumatic. We’ll start by examining where our beliefs about love and marriage come from and how those beliefs influence our choices. We’ll then look at what happens to us psychologically and physically when we discover, despite our best efforts, someone else made choices that deeply impact the stability of our own lives.  As we do this, we’ll examine specific areas where partners feel under threat due to those choices and we’ll explore how and why differences in meaning making and expectations affect a partner’s ability to respond to sexual betrayal.  We will also do a very brief introduction to Phase One of the Multi-Dimensional Partner Trauma Model. This course offers 1.5 CE’s (Must be present for the duration of the presentation).

After this program participants will be able to:

  1. Explain where beliefs come from and how our beliefs influence our choices and how sexual betrayal leads to a crisis of belief.
  2. Describe two ways sexual betrayal trauma differs from trauma due to a traumatic event.
  3. List six areas where partners experience feelings of “threat” due to sexual betrayal.
  4. Understand the six factors affecting a partner’s behavioral responses to allostatic load.
