It takes courage to admit you need help for a mental illness or substance use disorder. The sooner you seek help, the quicker you will start to recover. But with so many treatment options available, you might wonder when is residential therapy necessary?
What is Residential Treatment?
Residential treatment for your mental health or substance use disorder involves living at an addiction treatment center like Integrative Life Center’s Morningstar Residential locations. These centers provide a supervised, structured environment to help you maintain your sobriety and clean living as you work through recovery. You can create a support system of therapists and peers at residential programs. You also get the tools you need to overcome substance use disorders and mental health challenges.
Why Choose Residential Treatment Instead?
To understand when residential treatment could be necessary, it helps to know why people choose this treatment option. In many cases, a residential treatment program could be your best choice for lifelong recovery. It can provide the stability you need to get well.
Addiction Detox Support
It’s not uncommon for people who go to outpatient treatment programs to relapse. Detox support can be part of residential treatment programs. After detox, patients undergo intensive daily treatment to learn about addiction in a supportive environment.
Increased Care
You may need the reassurance of working through your program in the security of Integrative Life Center. Residential treatment programs are safe, structured environments that remove patients from stressful circumstances that promote unhealthy behaviors. This environment allows people to focus on building life skills they didn’t previously have.
Outpatient Care is Insufficient
Most often, patients who attend intensive outpatient treatment programs without success require residential care. But some patients who have not yet undergone outpatient treatment may not require this high level of care. Residential treatment programs give you immediate access to the help you need.
Social Isolation
You may not have the support you need at home for your therapy to be effective in the long run. People with mental illness typically live an isolated lifestyle. While this might be comfortable and familiar, it impedes a person’s growth toward wholeness.
Safety Concerns
Many people choose residential treatment when they are no longer in danger of harming themselves or others yet cannot live independently. The safe, secure environment that residential treatment programs provide is an excellent option if you’re not yet ready to be on your own.
Benefits of Residential Treatment
If you’re still wondering when a residential program is necessary, let’s explore the benefits of these programs.
Structured Schedules and Routines
Having a routine isn’t just beneficial to fit in all of your therapeutic programming. Structure helps you cope with change, create healthy habits, improve interpersonal relationships, and reduce stress. Without structure, people with mental illness may fail to take their medication, obtain adequate nutrition, perform effective self-care, and engage in beneficial relationships.
In our Morningstar Residential Program, master’s-level therapists lead 35 hours of programming along with two individual sessions per week onsite for patients. Your schedule will also include other opportunities for healing through integrative therapies such as EDMR, yoga, spirituality groups, breathwork, brainspotting, acupuncture, and music therapy.
Access to Medical and Psychiatric Care
Residential treatment centers like Integrative Life Center have around-the-clock staffing by trained resident assistants under a residential director, clinical director, nurse, and physician. Someone is always available to provide guidance.
Establish a Support System of Care
Residential therapy is highly emotionally supportive and focuses on helping the whole body and mind through treatment. Many residential centers encourage family participation through family education programs. Patients also benefit from having a therapeutic community of patients who support one another.
Individualized Treatment Plan
You are an individual, so your treatment plan should be unique, too. Our residential treatment program aligns with your individualized treatment plan to help you become the best version of yourself.
Residential Treatment at Integrative Life Center
Integrative Life Center offers gender-specific treatment options at two different residential locations to avoid distractions and tensions that sometimes occur in co-ed groups.
Morningstar Women’s Residential campus feels like a retreat. It’s tucked away in the rolling hills of West Nashville. It is two separate six-bed homes on 25 wooded acres. A garden, labyrinth, low ropes course, and sweat lodge are onsite. You can use them throughout your treatment journey.
Morningstar Men’s Residential lodge is on a hilltop with expansive views of the rolling hills of West Nashville. It’s a rustic 5,100-square-foot home with eight beds in single and shared bedrooms on eight wooded acres.
Our director of nutrition services is in partnership with local vendors to provide meals for both locations. As a result, we provide patients with delicious food that encourages overall wellness.
