Navigating Outpatient Rehab: What to Expect for Alcohol Addiction Recovery

Alcohol use disorder is a challenging journey, one that often leaves individuals feeling isolated and overwhelmed. For many people who struggle with alcohol use disorder, it seems impossible to get the help they need while meeting the demands and responsibilities of their work and home life. In cases where a person cannot fully step away from their daily lives to receive inpatient care, inpatient care is no longer the only option. If you or a loved one meets the alcohol use disorder criteria, help is available right now with outpatient rehab for alcoholics.

Outpatient rehab can help you regain control of your relationship with alcohol, without requiring you to put your entire life on pause. At Integrative Life Center, we understand the complexities of alcohol addiction, and we exist to guide each of our clients through their path of recovery. Your path may take you through outpatient rehab for alcohol, and we are glad to walk with you.

What is Outpatient Rehab?

There are multiple alcohol rehab treatment options for clients seeking the path toward recovery. In outpatient rehab for alcoholics, individuals can receive treatment while:

  • maintaining their career
  • managing specific healthcare concerns
  • caring for their families

Our outpatient treatment programs provide a flexible approach to recovery, accommodating the unique needs and responsibilities that each person brings with them. This type of rehab is well-suited for people who carry a great deal of responsibility in their professional or personal lives, giving them tools to regain power over alcohol without taking them out of their routines entirely.

In recovery, outpatient care takes two forms – Partial Hospitalization Programming (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP). Understanding the distinctions between these two treatment options can help provide some direction as you find proper help for your struggle.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

In a comprehensive program like PHP, an individual lives in a facility while receiving treatment according to personal needs. Those transitioning from residential care or those needing a safe place to continue treatment can benefit from this program. Additionally, it can serve as an excellent starting point for those just beginning their healing journey. PHP allows you to keep your car and technology, unlike residential treatment. Additionally, you attend five outside recovery meetings weekly, promoting a balanced and integrated approach to recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)

IOP provides outpatient rehab for alcohol abuse, and typically best serves those who have already gone through detoxification. People working through an IOP program attend five outside recovery meetings and participate in community work or volunteering as a part of this four-day, 12-hour weekly therapy program, which includes one individual session per week. While participating in these activities, people in IOP have the flexibility to remain in their home or some other safe place while they build healthier patterns. This format encourages the participants to feel autonomous and self-sufficient as they reintegrate into a community.

Where alcohol misuse clouds a person’s ability to see and love themself, we focus on re-introducing our clients to their true selves with love and care.
  • Trauma-informed Care with a Heart-centered Approach: We use the principles of trauma-informed care and a heart-centered philosophy, recognizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit and meeting each person where they are.
