Acupuncture And AcuDetox

patient getting massage

Every client at Integrative Life Center has the benefit of receiving acupuncture and acudetox through our acupuncture therapy program. One of the many holistic therapies we offer like mindfulness or massage therapy, acupuncture focuses on healing the entire body. Research shows that in treating addiction, acupuncture therapy can elevate the level of endorphins in the body, which provides relief from cravings and calms nerves. Furthermore, auricular acupuncture or acudetox is a technique that is particularly effective in helping ease the symptoms of withdrawal.

What Is Involved In Our Acupuncture Therapy Program

Acupuncture is a common holistic treatment. In some traditional Asian medicinal practices, acupuncture is used to balance the flow of energy in an individual’s body. This life force or ‘chi’ flows along certain pathways throughout an individual’s body called meridians. Acupuncture inserts needles at specific points along meridians to enhance or alleviate the flow of chi. Western medicine uses acupuncture to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissue provoking the body into release natural painkillers and other natural internal chemicals to aid in healing. However, no matter the angle from which you approach an acupuncture therapy program, it can have a substantial and immediate impact on your body. Frequently clients find the process to be not just relaxing but effective in relieving stressors common in substance abuse recovery and mental health treatment.

Small, harmless needles aren’t the tools used in acupuncture therapy. For instance, some other tools used include heat, friction, suction as in cupping, and even pulses of electromagnetic energy. Another common technique in acupuncture therapy is acupressure. This technique uses firm pressure rather than needles at meridian points for stimulation. While not quiet massage therapy, acupressure can be an effective way to ease oneself into a full acupuncture therapy program.

The Benefits Of Acupuncture Therapy

The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association, states, “people who undergo this type of treatment, as an adjunct within a comprehensive treatment program that offers other therapeutic elements including counseling, education, family involvement, mutual support group involvement, and supportive medical health care [experience benefits that include] a more optimistic and cooperative attitude toward the process of recovery, as well as reductions in cravings, anxiety, sleep disturbance and need for pharmaceuticals.” For many individuals in recovery from substance use disorder, having more options available to them to address cravings that are non-medication based is an advantage. Also, for those dealing with mental health issues, acupuncture therapy can be a simple and immediate way to relax and handle stressors that may aggravate one’s issues.

No matter how you approach an acupuncture therapy program, it can offer clients another alternative to get better, to heal. Having more options is always beneficial because each individual has unique needs. Acupuncture therapy is one means to alleviate pain stored in the body from trauma, neglect, or substance abuse.
